In the run-up to the actual presidential election, I wrote a little bit about Sarah Palin. I said what I said in an effort to shed light on the fact that I preferred to see someone in the White House who was happy to admit what he or she didn’t know – but was smart enough to get the advice of experts who did know.
In seeing Sarah Palin at the Republican Governor’s conference in Miami, it reminds me why I said what I did. I think some people are surprised by the amount of camera time she’s gotten of late. Obviously, she can now talk about the election, the campaign and more importantly, herself. One of the reasons the cameras are trained on her now is simple – we now have a real chance to vett her, the way we didn’t because of the McCain campaign’s handling of her media availability. Simply put, the media want to get a true crack at her. We/They didn’t get 20 months to process her. Hell, she had barely been governor 20 months ago. All of this reinforces why they need to keep the cameras rolling. Sarah Palin may grow and improve, but after any number of months of intelligent speech from President Obama and impassioned narrative from Joe Biden, Sarah Palin will sound like an even worse choice than she was 3 months ago. Don’t forget, everybody loves a trainwreck. When was the last time you didn’t see rubbernecking at a roadside accident.
