Born of John & Rose in 1941
Part Cavan
Part Meath
To them, I was their son.
My luck of the Irish.
That they made it here at all.
The loads of things that happened
For me to be set here.
Some little, but none small.
First came Jack
So handsome, big & strong.
After me came Annie
My sis & favorite tag along.
My luck of the Irish.
To have them all
In my every day,
My life, never better
Little more to say.
When mommy got sick
We all gathered ’round.
When mommy passed
Such a deafening sound.
My luck of the Irish.
Just like Jack did
Yes, at 17
I went off for a hitch
To join the Marines.
While away I met Carmen
The one true love of my life.
Never happier or prouder
To make her my wife.
My luck of the Irish.
The lords gave us Kenny
A namesake of mine
The heavens gave us Kevin
All our love was enshrined.
Shortly thereafter
Daddy fell ill
But, just like with me
He held no ill will.
Through triumphs & tragedies
My family, it grew.
Went into business with friends
But, we lost Jackie too soon.
My luck of the Irish.
My wife is an artist
Who raised our two boys
She nurtured & cherished
To follow their joys.
Shane, Ryan & Sadie.
My dearest of loves.
From here on out
I’ll look down from above.
My luck of the Irish.
I’ve collected, assembled & cobbled
My friends.
Put some together, connected
So they’ll stay ‘Til the end.
Surrounded by love
As I walked thru this fire.
With my love by my side
I shall not quite tire.
My luck of the Irish.
I might’ve left you all too early
But, this pain was too much.
I ask you do not grieve.
Don’t be sorry as such.
I’ll see you all soon enough.
You’ll come ’round to meet.
With my luck of the Irish
I’ll save you a seat.
