Subway Stories – 18 And A Day

February 16, 2011 By Andre Archimbaud

You look as you did that morning
The morning after our love was born.
Just the same…
Your smile tilted at the corners
Your eyes, stilted in the morning.
Glimpsing all the things that we had instantly become.

18 years and a day…
Who could have known
This could have come our way.

Surprised by the sudden depth.
We couldn’t catch its breadth.
Early on, we were so easy…
The days, the nights.
Sunrise, sunset.

18 years and a day…
Who could have known
About all we had to do and say.

Just like any day can be filled with rain
We have shouldered our share of pain…
As any life can be shadowed with clouds
We have lived some time underneath shrouds.

But…

18 years and a day
I can honestly say…you’re where I belong.
Where I will stay.

The balance across and between us
Is enough to keep us both afloat and buoyed.
As sure as waves crash into the walls
We have found our time and tide.

18 years and a day
I can honestly say…you’re where I belong.
Where I will stay.

You look as you did that morning
The morning after our love was born.
Just the same…
Your smile tilted at the corners
Your eyes, stilted in the morning.
Glimpsing at all the things that we will become.

sharing is caring!
