Subway Stories – Courage Comes In One Size

August 26, 2009 By Andre Archimbaud

She gathered up her things
Putting her whole life into boxes
Taking down the tacks
That held all the frames.

She had to leave and get out and move on.
There was nothing left to do or say
No more games to sit and wait and play…

 Courage comes in one size
She drapes it over her shoulder
Like a shawl to keep her warm
It’s come to match her form.

He watches the world pass by
Seeing all the people moving in and out of their lives
Sitting at his counter in a diner
That window tells their story with their smiling eyes

It’s been forever since he’s smiled through all of his lives lies.

 Courage comes in one size
He picks up all his tips
Spreads his lips…and smiles.
Knowing it begins now…his life!

You can wear your courage on the outside
For all the world to see…
You can wear your courage on the inside
And keep it closely.
But be sure to wear it somewhere…and let no one take it away.

My courage was wrestled from me
And I just now won it back
I shall wear it…even when I’m black.

 Courage comes in one size
I know myself better than ever
I will wear my courage on my sleeve.
The way I live my life.
