Subway Stories – Electronics

October 1, 2008 By Andre Archimbaud

So, this morning as I am getting ready to head down the stairs to start my day, I reach to my hip to pull out my BlackBerry (the device I use to send all of these blogs), and it flies out of my hands and down a flight of stairs.

The plastic, protective case around the device flew in two separate directions and the battery cover and battery went in two other directions. In short, it was 2 seconds of BlackBerry Bedlam.

However, what scared me most was that my BlackBerry was broken. Yes, I know these things are stronger than ever – my old 7290 survived more than a few falls from short buildings (practically).

But, I was still scared. More than anything, I said to myself, ‘How am I going to do my blog? Do my job? Live a life?’.

In my own personal life, I’ve never overly wondered or been concerned about being too connected or attached to anything. Blame that on a relatively shitty and post-modern nuclear family structure.

I guess, more than anything, using this BlackBerry has become a habit. Habits are hard to break…ask a nun!
