Subway Stories – Palin and People

October 3, 2008 By Andre Archimbaud

In March of 1985, I ran for 8th Grade Class President. I was well-known, (I thought) well -liked and understood the issues. I went into the contest feeling that I had every chance of winning. I did not. I did not because two people did not vote for me – and one of them was my best friend at the time.

In watching last night’s ‘debate’ between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, one thing struck me. I am scared that she and McCain/Palin could win. That they could win is not what throws me. It’s that I do believe there are a lot people who see eye to eye with this self-proclaimed ‘bulldog in lipstick.’.

I have a feeling, and I know it’s a stretch but, that those who support the democratic ticket of Obama/Biden could face a similar fate in 30 or so days. I don’t know that their ‘friends’ won’t vote for them. I do, however, think that there is a decent shot that a good chunk of independent voters will sway right. If they do, Obama/Biden will lose this election. Do not forget that the American people twice put George Bush in the White House. So, in spite of ourselves, I could see us screwing this up again.
