Subway Stories – The Man Who Would Be King

January 16, 2009 By Andre Archimbaud

Soaring and scaling
His voice knows no heights
His passion knows no ends

Cycling around the world
Putting us all at ease
With his wit and wisdom

When he plucks on his strings
He puts the world on his back
He knows how to cut through all things
The things he says could fill all the cracks
This is the man who would be the king.

He speaks and spells so fluidly
With a bag on his back
His message to be spread
Hand to hand.

The anger, the fear
The love, all the tears
Push the words right out
Of his mouth.

When he plucks on his strings
He puts the world on his back
He knows how to cut through all things
The things he says could fill all the cracks
This is the man who would be king.

The anger, the fear
The love, all the tears
Push the words right out.

All of his promise and hope
The possibilities
The scope
Dashed in a moment

Swim in the river
Again, pushing the bounds
Soaring and scaling…
As he drowns.

When he plucked on his strings
He put the world on his back
He knew how to cut through all things
The things that he said coulda filled all the cracks

This is the man who would have been king.
