As a preface, I am working on a major piece on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I hope to have that up in the next week. I look forward to sharing it.
So, as I write this, I am jammed into a downtown express train heading from 86th Street to Union Square. The train is really packed. Not quite like ‘Going-to-Yankee-Stadium-during-a-World-Series’ packed, but it’s close. It reminds me of why I live here. I love the art of touch. Maybe I wasn’t held enough as a child, who knows. But I love to touch and be touched. This is the closest thing to be able to do that! It’s honestly one of the reasons I love New York. I like people and New York City’s got ’em to burn. After having grown up in Suburban Dallas, one has to appreciate what a place like New York has to offer. The access. The people. The excitement. Having lived here for 11 years (and being around here a lot through my life prior to that), there is no better place to live. I do realize that New York is not for everyone. As much as I love old architecture and truly appreciate it, I really love some of the new things that are going up. These buildings are a testament to how New York refuses to stay in one place. Some of these new buildings, tho, are a pre-cursor of what is to come. This city – and it may take 200 years or more – will look like the film ‘Blade Runner.’ I could see how these structures on their own mean little, but groups and entire neighborhoods of them will turn this city into that film. I look forward to seeing as much of that time as I can.
